How Healthy Are Green Juices? The Rewards of Juicing

Fresh green smoothie macro shot

If you haven’t been living under a rock for the past decade or so, you’ll know that green juices are the poster children of healthy living. Since green juices and smoothies can pack a punch of vitamins and nutrients, they’re rock stars in the world of health and fitness. Nutritionally dense, these juices can combine all your favorite fruits, vegetables and super foods in one glass of easy-to-consume goodness.

If you compare the number of fruits and vegetables that go into one glass of juice to what you can eat in a single serving, you’ll know that juices make it easier to get your daily recommended servings of fruits and vegetables. In this article, let’s look at the various health benefits you can enjoy with green juices.

Improving Digestive Health

It is a well-known fact that a happy gut can actually improve the overall quality of your life. Many medical professionals believe that a healthy gut is the foundation for a healthy life. Since your digestion and digestive system’s functioning affects nearly all aspects of your life, it is important to ensure it is healthy.

Green juices help you in aiding digestion and improving digestive health as they contain a host of prebiotics and enzymes that are beneficial for gut health. The good bacterium that is found in many leafy greens along with phytonutrients can help in reducing digestive tract inflammation. The concentration of vitamins and minerals in such juices also help in boosting the immune system via the digestive system.

Alkalizing the Body

When it comes to the body’s pH balance, there is a delicate equilibrium to be maintained. The optimum pH of your body isn’t too acidic, nor is it too alkaline. The ideal number rests firmly between 7.35 and 7.45. While each body possesses a natural buffer system to maintain this optimal pH range, there are many factors that disrupt this balance.

Right from consuming too much processed food to a diet right in sodium, sugar or alcohol, your pH gets affected, making your body too acidic. As a result, your body has to plug into its reserves of vitamins and minerals from other sites to bridge the gap and bring itself back to a more alkaline state. This can result in ailments like fatigue, poor digestion or even weak bones!

When you consume nutrient-rich green juices, the vitamins, minerals and nutrients boost the body’s alkalinity. By providing your body with the nutrients it requires on a daily basis, these juices can improve your health in a holistic manner.

Delaying the Process of Aging

Antioxidants are known to have a direct impact on preventing the signs of aging from manifesting in your body. They protect you from oxidative damage that is known to physically age a body. Oxidative stress is also believed to be linked to a number of other ailments such as heart disease, anxiety, diabetes and even cancer.

Fruits and vegetables are treasure troves of naturally occurring antioxidants. When you consume green juices that are packed with a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, it helps in supplying your cells with antioxidants. This directly helps you combat the signs of aging. Studies suggest that consuming around ten servings of fruits and vegetables a day can help in protecting against a wide range of diseases.

Enhancing Detoxification

No matter what you do, you cannot protect your body from constantly being exposed to toxins. Right from drinking water to household furniture, pets and even the air you breathe; toxins are everywhere! Regular exposure to toxins put great strain on your liver and other internal organs of your body. In the long run, this is detrimental to living a happy, healthy life.

The liver is responsible for getting rid of toxins in the body. When you consume vegetables and fruits in the recommended amounts, it helps you liver function. By efficiently getting toxins out of your body, your liver gets a fighting chance against many diseases. Consuming green juice everyday can help you detoxify your body and make your liver healthier, in spite of the terrible onslaught of toxins every day.

Supporting a Healthy Immune System

Our bodies require constant care and maintenance to work at optimum performance levels. Even in the case of our body’s immune system, replenishing the nutrients that get lost is a must. Any nutritional deficiencies you may have can cause you to have reduced immunity. This means that you will be more susceptible to illnesses and infections.

When you consume green juices every day, it supplies your body with the required nutrients. The chances of you having severe nutritional deficiencies are reduced when you incorporate such juices into your daily diet as they strengthen your immune system.

Energizing You

Most of us have found ourselves relying on coffee or energy drinks when we’re besieged by tight deadlines and demanding schedules. When our energy levels run low, it is natural to reach out for something that will perk you right up. Caffeinated beverages are not all bad in moderation. However, if you tend to consume too much caffeine, it could negatively impact your body in the long run.

What most people don’t understand is that this fatigue or lack of energy is often a direct result of vitamin and mineral deficiencies. This means that if you supply your body with all the nutrients it requires, you will feel less tired and have more energy to get through the day.

Green juices help you bridge this gap by supplying your body with a huge batch of nutrients. If you regularly consume green juices, you will find yourself feeling less tired and more alert through the day. Interestingly enough, no late-afternoon crashes accompany this energy stimulant!

Supplying the body with Bio available Nutrients

If your body needs regular supplies of vitamins and minerals, why not just rely on a simple multivitamin? After all, they’re far easier to swallow than glasses of green juice. While this may seem logical, it is far from helpful. Many multivitamins consist of chemical and synthetic versions of vitamin and minerals that aren’t necessarily absorbed into the body.

On the other hand, green juices offer vitamins and minerals in the most bioavailable form possible. With the naturally-occurring enzymes left intact, the goodness in green juices are better absorbed in the body.
